new years resolutions

Have you guys made them yet?  You know, the ones you promise yourself doing for the whole new year and then eventually drop it after three days.  Yeah, those ones.  The 30 day diets "that actually work"  and the "walk off the belly fat" plans.  Sure they may work, and when we look at them for the first time we think, "Yeah, that makes sense!".  But nearly after one week of trying out new diets and workouts and we don't see any of the results we had hoped for, we say, "Hey, what gives?!".  And from there after, we stop this new year's resolution.

There are two things wrong with this.  1) the ads and 2) us!  Let me get into more detail.

1.)  The ads make us believe we are truly going to lose all of our body fat in the days that are set in their plan.  Which doesn't work because we all have different body sizes, forms, and weights.  The people who are selling these ideas want us to believe it will work for every size, form, and weight.  Which leads me to my next point.

2.)  Us.  We are lead to believe everything that is advertised, must be true.  "Wow, a diet that works in just 30 days!"  You buy the diet plan and use it for several weeks and you've only lost a couple pounds.  This is the part where you scream at your scale, "What gives?!"  And then you quit.

We rely so much on what the advertisement says, we get discouraged at ourselves for not losing the right amount of weight in time.  But we all lose weight in different places at different periods of time.  We were all made to be different.  Or else we all would have used that diet plan and be fit as a fiddle.  Therefore I would never have written this post, and so forth....

My resolution was this;

* To respect my body and be healthy
- take good care of my teeth (brush, floss, & swish)
- exercises regularly (go on walks with family, or get workout dvd's from the library)
- eat right (keeping a journal of what I eat&drink and how many calories I have per day - 2,500 at the max.)
- take showers everyday (even if I think I can get away with taking one the next day)

I keep reminding myself, "You may not see results now.  But just you wait!  In a month, you will look much better than you do now."  As the old saying goes, you won't see results over night.  And that's true.  I'm setting myself right now, on the 2nd of January, 2013, to actually do this resolution... at my body's pace.

Feel free to comment for questions and more.  Happy New Year!
